Knowing your rights is the most important part of protecting yourself.  Here are a few tips to help with your construction matter:
 
1.  In certain circumstances, the Michigan Construction Lien Act may prevent enforcement of a Claim of Lien recorded against residential property when the homeowner has paid the contractor for the improvement.
 
2.  Foreclosure on a Claim of Lien may not occur later than one year after the date the Claim of Lien was recorded with the Register of Deeds.
 
3.  Complaints against licensed builders or contractors may be filed with the State of Michigan’s Consumer & Industry Services Department - Builders Licensing Division by calling (517) 241-9202.
